A Reiki Practice To Remain Present

What does it mean to remain present? Appreciating that precise moment that calls your attention. Allowing yourself to linger in it. It’s also the perfect time to receive messages from the Divine. Reminding ourselves to be in the present moment, even if just for a few minutes, takes practice. I’m speaking to you from years of practice, and I’m still working on it. I became a Reiki practitioner in 2018 and continuously look for ways to go deeper with this beautiful healing practice.

For a number of months now, I’ve turned to reciting the Reiki principles (provided during a Reiki I attunement) as a way to bring me to that sweet feeling of being present and grounded. As a long time devotee of mantras and affirmations, this has greatly helped my scattering mind. Sometimes I’ll chant the Reiki principles before a meditation session or just quietly recite them before I begin my workday in NYC. What are some of your practices to remain present?

Are the Reiki principles exclusive to Reiki practitioners? Absolutely not. Anyone can recite them, especially if you’re looking for ways to go deeper and get present with yourself. I’ve modified some of the words to make it feel like my own. Feel free to use this or modify it to your liking:

Just for today, I release all anger

Just for today, I release all worry

Just for today, I will be in gratitude

Just for today, I will work wholeheartedly

Just for today, I will show compassion to myself and others

Until next time…with loving Reiki.
