I recently read through my dream journal of this year and was reminded of what has transpired in my life during 2021. There was some closure along with some WOWs! Our dream journal can offer beautiful insight into our lives that we may be missing from time to time, making this a simple self-reflection tool or companion.
Many times, we’ll write or type up our dreams into our chosen method for journaling, reflect on it for a few minutes, then move on with our day. I’m guilty of doing this as well. I don’t always analyze every single dream that I remember unless it spoke profoundly in some way to me. When we record our dreamtime, it’s likely that we don’t know at that moment what it means for us. Sometimes we may need a few hours or days to understand a particular dream. Once we close the book to our journal, it’s also possible that we may not go back to it unless we have another dream to record. Luckily we can also turn to our dream journal as a self-reflection tool.
How can you use your dream journal as a self-reflection tool? Set aside some time every 3-6 months. Don’t be surprised if you end up becoming engrossed by all of the details and messages that came forth from your dream experiences. Sometimes, you’re able to recall particular dreams while reading about them. Allowing yourself time to self-reflect with your dreamtime experiences can provide you with a deeper, or sometimes, alternate meaning to a particular dream. There’s certainly more clarity. You can also recognize which dreams turned out to be a premonition - a dream that assisted with helping you to prepare for or avoid something in your life.
